ULTIMATE To Do List for Celebrating your Birthday at Magic Kingdom
Published Friday, January 25th 2019 - Updated Monday, February 18th 2019
Before You Go
Let us know at SunshineDestinations.com that you are celebrating a birthday when you reserve your vacation. If you want to surprise your prince or princess with a Character Dining Experience, specialty cruise or dinner show on the big day, make your reservations early. Most reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance.
When You Arrive
Staying on property? Be sure to let your resort know at check-in. Sometimes they will provide you with a little surprise in your room. This does not always happen as it is at the discretion of the cast members, but it doesn't hurt to give them this little reminder! They can also set up a special character wake up call to your room on your birthday!
Free Birthday Button
After you watch the "Welcome Show" head over to one of the shops on Main Street and get your free Birthday Button. You can also obtain a button for everyone in your party that says "We are Celebrating". This is a great way for everyone to celebrate the birthday boy/girl! Your Birthday Button is a great way to alert cast members of your birthday. You will hear an abundance of "Happy Birthday" wishes throughout the park, and when possibly you might even obtain some extra Disney love and freebies!
Cruise Down Main Street
This might be my favorite little Magic Kingdom 'not so secret - secret'. Catch a nostalgic ride to Cinderella Castle or Town Square aboard a vintage vehicle. Board a classic horse-drawn car (an old-fashioned trolley pulled by a horse) , omnibus (a gas-powered, open-air 2-story bus), jitney (an early automobile without a roof) or fire engine and sit back as you are ushered from one end of Main Street, U.S.A. to the other. Along the way, wave at the other park guests and behold a bevy of 2- and 3-story-high, Victorian-themed shops and restaurants from a time and place long since passed.
Dapper Dans - Barber Shop Quartet
Stick around for a performance! They might just sing Happy Birthday to YOU!
Harmony Barber Shop
While you’re on Main Street U.S.A. make sure you stop by the Harmony Barber Shop - they offer an old-fashioned hair cut experience! If you are wanting a haircut be sure to have an appointment as walk-ins are limited. However, you can come in though for some free Birthday Pixie Dust!
Character Experience
Be sure to wear your Birthday Pin and let the character handlers know that you are there to celebrate your birthday! Characters provide a little extra attention for the birthday boy/girl!
Autograph Birthday Cards
At Disney World, you can meet everyone from Mickey and Princess Tiana to Chewbacca and Tarzan. Make your meet and greet opportunities extra special by having your favorite characters sign a special birthday card for yourself or your friends. After the card has been signed, you have a one-of-a-kind Disney-fied gift.
Take a Birthday Balloon Photo
Getting a photo of yourself “holding” the giant bunch of Disney balloons is great, but there’s another fun way to get those fantastic Mickey happies in a photo- have them as your photo background! Ask the balloon handler if they’d be willing to lower the balloon bunch close to the ground to get this look, and voila! Aren’t these photos the cutest?! Just a quick side note: the balloon handlers don’t start walking Main Street until around 10am, sometimes 10:30am, so go hop on a ride and then make your way back for this photo op!
Take A Birthday Photo in front of the Castle
Its obligatory! Take a photo in front of the castle, show off your birthday attire and huge birthday smile!
Free Starbucks
Before leaving Mainstreet USA, grab a free cup of joe! Sign up for Starbucks Rewards about a week or two before your birthday visit and make sure you have the Starbucks app downloaded to your phone. I do not recommend waiting to do this in the parks, since Disney's wi-fi can be spotty.
Have Your Cake and Eat It Too
The most popular freebie at Disney is also the most random. At any given sit down restaurant, birthday guests at Magic Kingdom have a pretty good chance of getting a free celebratory dessert. So be sure to have your celebratory button in full display and be very friendly and engaging with your server!
Stay for the Fireworks
We cannot think of a better way to end your magical birthday than a spectacular fireworks show! The astounding 18 minute fireworks extravaganza has special effects and lasers along with your favorite Disney songs!
