Plastic Straws No More - Official Ban Begins At Walt Disney World As Paper Straws Are In Place Everywhere
Published Monday, April 22nd 2019 - Updated Monday, April 22nd 2019Last summer, The Walt Disney Company announced its case to help the environment by starting to eliminate much of the plastic in the parks and on its cruise ships. As of Sunday, April 21, 2019, they took things a step further by starting a total ban on all plastic straws in the Walt Disney World parks and resorts.
Since making its announcement last year, Disney has introduced reusable shopping bags and started leaving plastic lids off of fountain drinks. Plastic straw dispensers had also started becoming few and far between, but they could still be requested by guests.
As of April 21, 2019, plastic straws are officially banned around Walt Disney World. Cast Members have confirmed that it is a change being made resort-wide and that includes theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, and resort hotels.
There were still a few quick-service locations in the parks that had plastic straws available, but it may simply be Disney getting rid of inventory. Paper straws are available for guests who still need a straw of some kind.
